Globeleq Announces new CEO
LONDON: 29 OCTOBER 2019: The Globeleq Board and its shareholders have selected Mike Scholey as the new CEO of Globeleq commencing 1 January 2020.
Mr Scholey currently holds the position of CFO & COO and is well positioned to continue growing the current development pipeline as well as managing the existing assets. His extensive experience in the power sector and in Africa, accompanied by a broad skillset ranging from managing asset operations, finance, understanding the current shareholders and business development, will be critical in enabling Globeleq’s continued success.
Laurence Mulliez, the Globeleq Board Chair commented: “We are very excited to have Mike taking up the CEO position in 2020. We believe his well-established relationships with key stakeholders, combined with his business insights and current experience working closely with the outgoing CEO, Paul Hanrahan, make him the best candidate for the role. Mike and Paul will continue to work together in transitioning the company’s leadership through to the end of the year.”
Mike Scholey added: “I am honoured to be selected as the next CEO of Globeleq and excited to succeed Paul and continue working with our teams to achieve our mission of powering Africa’s growth. Further, I would like to thank Paul for the direction he has given the company and the achievements we accomplished under his leadership.”
Globeleq is majority owned by CDC, the UK’s development finance institution.
Nick O’Donohoe, Chief Executive of CDC added “I would like to congratulate Mike Scholey on his appointment. Globeleq is, in a very literal sense, powering ambition on the African continent. Reliable, affordable and environmentally sustainable electricity is a pre-requisite for driving prosperity in Africa and I am sure Globeleq will go from strength to strength with Mike at the helm.”
