Globeleq Building a brighter future in Béago
Children at the primary school in the village of Béago, on the outskirts of Côte d’Ivoire’s commercial capital, Abidjan, have more space to learn in, thanks to the new classrooms built by Azito Operations and Management (Azito O&M).
The building, inaugurated on 9 February, is not the first to be built as part of Azito’s social responsibility programme.
A long-term project
In 2013, the power plant renovated two of the school’s existing buildings and last year completed the construction of two new buildings and the principal’s office.
A representative of the Minister of Education, Mea Kouadio, said the ministry was grateful for the extra classrooms which will not only create a better environment for both teachers and the children, but will also allow the school to enrol more pupils.
Improved results
The project’s positive impact goes way beyond just that. Graduation rates at the school have increased from 49,36 % in 2012 to 95 % in 2015.
By providing better facilities and resources, the number of students in the school has grown from 380 students to 519 in the past three years.
