Globeleq, together with its project partners Source Energia and Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), commenced operations of the Cuamba Solar project in September 2023. Located in Mozambique’s Niassa Province, the project combines a 19 MWp solar PV plant with a 7 MWh battery energy storage system, making it the first independent power project in the country to integrate utility-scale battery storage. The US$36 million project supplies electricity to EDM under a 25-year power purchase agreement and includes upgrades to the existing Cuamba substation. The project is helping strengthen energy security in northern Mozambique while supporting the country’s transition to cleaner sources of power.
