Malindi Solar is a 52 MWp solar PV project located in Langobaya, Malindi District, Kilifi County, Kenya. The facility consists of approximately 157,000 solar panels and provides power to Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) under a 20 year power purchase agreement. It is one of the first IPP owned utility scale solar plants in Kenya and the only renewable energy plant located in the country’s coastal region. Globeleq and its project partner, Africa Energy Development Corporation (AEDC), completed construction in 2021. The plant began exporting power to the national grid on 14 December 2021 and achieved full commercial operations in January 2022. Globeleq manages the operations of the power plant.
