Mulungushi is a 32 MW hydropower station in Zambia’s Central Province and one of two hydroelectric plants operated by Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company (LHPC), Zambia’s first Independent Power Producer. Together with the 24 MW Lunsemfwa Hydropower Station, it forms part of a cascade scheme connected to LHPC’s dedicated transmission network, supporting reliable delivery of electricity into the national grid.
Originally commissioned in the early twentieth century and subsequently refurbished and upgraded, Mulungushi continues to play an important role in Zambia’s power system. The facility supplies electricity under long-term power purchase agreements and supports regional electricity trading through the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP).
