TANZANIAN YOUNG SCIENTISTS CELEBRATED IN IRELAND
The Irish President, Michael Higgins, commenting at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in Dublin early this year, has commended two Tanzanian secondary school students, Prosper Gasper and Erick Simon, for their ingenuity and innovation in creating an automatic fire alert system using mobile networks.
“Africa’s young people are enthusiastic and passionate about uplifting their communities and finding solutions for the great global challenges of sustainable development,” said President Higgins. “Prosper and Erick are fine examples of young Africans who, through their dedication and discipline, are able to influence positive change.”
The two Tanzanians from St. Jude secondary school in the Arusha region, were overall winners in last year’s Young Scientists Tanzania (YST) exhibition in Tanzania and winners in the innovation and technology category at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists in South Africa.
